Self-study Harmonica FAQ
Apr 13, 2018

• Move: Is the head moving or moving when the mouthpiece is played? This really does not matter. However, when playing fast, it is usually more moving head, because it will be faster.

• Grip: This doesn't matter. How to get it is OK. In general, Chinese textbooks will emphasize this, but it is actually very insignificant. However, there are several special grips that will bring some special sound effects, such as hand wah. You have to master it.

• Ventilation: The harmonica has both blowholes and suction holes. Therefore, general ventilation is not a big problem. However, sometimes it is a song that is inhaled/exhaled. At this time, the nose is usually used to adjust, and the mouth does not leave the piano.

• Sound absorption in the second hole (ten holes): This is a unique issue for the 10-hole harmonica. Beginners will find that they do not breathe sound or have strange noises when they suck the second hole. Someone also went back to the merchant to return the goods. In fact, this was due to the wrong mouth type when you played, the tongue was not leveled, and you used chest-type breathing to inadvertently make a pressure-sounding posture. So you can use this tone to check if your posture is correct.

• The harmonica blows with a “click” sound (a chromatic scale): the valve on the reed sticks. There is no good way to do it. You can heat it and blow it again to prevent the formation of water vapor.
